PURCHASE THE XLINK BY XTREME TECHNOLOGIES CORP. INSTEAD !!!!!!
PANASONIC MAKES THE BEST CORDLESS PHONES, BUT THIS UNIT IS A FAILURE.
I ORIGINALLY GAVE THIS PRODUCT 5 STARS. I WOULD NOW GIVE IT 0 STARS. THIS PRODUCT WAS RELEASED WITH FIRMWARE FLAWS WHICH ARE CAUSING DROPOUTS BETWEEN THE BASE UNIT AND THE HANDSETS (READ THE OTHER REVIEWS). THIS IS NOT A BLUETOOTH COMPATIBILITY ISSUE. PANASONIC RELEASED THIS UNIT WITH INHERENT FLAWS. I AM AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER; AND HAVE HAD EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE WITH CELLULAR/LANDLINE INTERFACE PRODUCTS. I RECOMMENDED THIS UNIT TO MY COLLEAGUES AND RELATIVES; THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. I AM CONTEMPLATING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BECAUSE IT APPEARS PANASONIC WAS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS, BUT DECIDED TO RELEASE THE UNIT REGARDLESS. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. |
Works well for me - Update

It seems like a lot of people have had problems with this item but for me it has worked great. I have two Verizon phones connected (HTC XV6900 and a Samsung Alias)and have had no problems with them doing auto connect when in range and no dropped calls - yet. I'm amazed at how far my cell phones can be from the base and still connect. The base unit is on the first floor in the kitchen and my cell can be in a second floor bedroom and still work just fine.
The performance could have a lot to do with your cell service and how well the Bluetooth works on your pnone. A previous reviewer pointed out that the "B" version has been improved - I thought the "B" meant that it was the color black version as opposed the a "S" silver version but they may be right as I have the "B" version and it works great.
UPDATE - Several months later and this system is still working great for me. I'm convinced that people who have problems with this phone are really having more problems with their cell phone than the Panasonic system. On maybe two or three occasions there have been times where my cell phone (Verizon XV6900) didn't connect automatically upon entering the house but I've had more instances where the same cell phone won't automatically connect with my Bluetooth enabled Garmin GPS in the car. The KX-TH1212B seems to work much more reliably than the Garmin. My wife's Verizon Alias phone always connects without problem. Neither phone has experienced dropped calls when connected. I've expanded my system to include six handsets and no problems there either. |

| The Panasonic KX-TH1212B Telephone System was easy for me to set up after first reading and following the included instructions. Most people should be able to install and set up this system if they follow the instructions. I liked the feature where you only had to program one handset for your Address Book and any other handsets you have will automatically be programed when they are set to operate with this system. It was also easy to set up the Cell Phone feature and likewise your Address Book will automatically work with it once it is set to work with this system. Bottom line, it works as expected with no problems. |

| I purchased these phones about a month ago. I was not sure about them because of some of the reviews. I have to say I have had no problems with this phone dropping calls or connecting with my bluetooth cell phones. The only problem that I am having is my wireless internet connecting to my laptop in some parts of the house and I am not sure if this has to do with the phones or not. I would recommend these phones to a friend anytime they have been a great buy for my family. |
Different experience!

I was VERY reluctant to purchase this phone after reading all the negative reviews here. But let me back up a little and explain my situation.
I am a professional photographer, and just moved into a new photo studio space. My partner and I use our cell phones exclusively -- we don't have a regular phone line, and don't want one. Unfortunately, we share our building with several computer companies, and the RF noise is incredible. Combined with low cell phone signal levels, we weren't able to reliably use our cell phones in most of the studio space.
The Panasonic phone system looked like the perfect solution. And over the years, I have owned many Panasonic phones, and always found them to be solid performers with a somewhat conservative and very Japanese design philosphy. It seemed inconceivable to me that Panasonic could make the horrible product described by reviews here. So even though many of the reviews were very negative, we decided to take a chance based on previous positive experience with the brand, and knowing we could just return the thing if they turned out to be true.
Well, we've had it working for a week. Installation was completely simple -- I paired it to our two iPhone 3Gs phones in a couple of minutes, and then stuck the base station up in the drop ceiling so we wouldn't have to to look at it. The cell phones sit on a table about 8 feet away. So far, not one dropped call, not one issue. To steal Apple's phrase, it "just works." Audio quality is just fine -- certainly not hi fi, but well within the normal range for wireless phones.
Like I said, we are in a very difficult RF environment. We have tons of computers and other stuff radiating in the space, and our neighbors add even more. But with the cell phones in a place where they get a good signal, all problems are over -- we can take the Panasonic handsets anywhere in our studio space, and there's never any dropouts, noise, or dropped calls. The caller ID works too.
I can't speak to why other users have had so many difficulties, but I can report that our unit, combined with two Apple iPhone 3Gs phones, works exactly as promised. No drama, no hassle. In short, a great solution for people who need to interface several regular phones to a bluetooth equipped cell phone.
Just a side note -- I drive a Ford Fusion, which is equipped with a bluetooth phone interface. I can go from walking down the street, to the car, to the studio, and the iPhone 3Gs switches seamlessly from no bluetooth to car bluetooth, to studio bluetooth. In other words, everything is working just at is supposed to, seamlessly.
Highly recommended product.
Update -- a couple of months later -- still working flawlessly. |
